Over the recent couple of months I?ve been bringing you posts from an anonymous poster (you can find the previous posts here, here and here) who shared her joy at falling pregnant and talked us through the first couple of months. Today she?s back, sharing details of her first scan, the joy of breaking the news to family and friends and details of the past few weeks. Excitingly today is the day she reveals her identity and for some of you out there you?ll know her better than you think!?
P.S. It?s not me, but the emails I?ve had asking if it was made me smile, so thank you!?
It has been an exciting few weeks for us both recently as we have finally seen our baby in real life ? what an experience that was!! I was really nervous when we were waiting at the hospital for my ultrasound in case we received some bad news. As I had never had any noticeable symptoms like morning sickness, I still had a niggling doubt in the back of my mind that it was all a dream.
The midwife explained that she wouldn?t turn on the monitor that I could see at first while she checked everything was okay and after what felt like hours, she finally turned it on and there was baby S!
Well, the relief that I felt in that instant was amazing! It was true, there was a baby in my tummy I had a little cry to myself as I watched our little wriggler on the monitor. K was amazed at how clear we could see everything, he didn?t realise that the baby would look like an actual baby ? I had asked him lots of times to read up about it, but I don?t think he wanted to get too carried away until we had been to the scan. The midwife tried to get baby to lie still enough to get all the required measurements to make sure everything was okay, but it was a struggle as baby wanted to jump about a lot just to be a nuisance, so we had to go far a wee walk to try and help baby settle down.
About 20 minutes later I was on my back again with the midwife trying to get the measurements; this was starting to prove very difficult for me as I was in desperate need for the loo! You have to have a full bladder for the scans and I could have easily gone before we went in, let alone over an hour later. This time we managed to get everything measured up and when we got our pictures, we just sat and stared at them for a while, letting it all sink in. After this I had to get some bloods taken and I was checked over just to make sure everything was okay.
Once we had finished at the hospital, we phoned our friends who were waiting very patiently for our call to let them know that everything was okay. I think they had started to panic that something might have gone wrong, so they were very excited when we told them what we had seen earlier. It was so good having our close friends knowing as we could share this experience with them.
Our next task was to tell my parents, I had always wanted to tell them face to face which made it really hard when we spoke on the phone. I just wanted to let them know, but I also wanted to see their faces when we told them. We had decided that we would visit them the weekend before Christmas as they live in Scotland and I didn?t have any holidays left to pop up nearer to Christmas itself. I found a lovely ?Grandma and Grandpa? Christmas card for them and wrote ?Merry Christmas from J, K and the bump? on it. I tried to get them to open it together, but my step-dad is always keeping busy in the kitchen, so my mum opened it first and then we waited patiently for him to finally come through to the living room. I think it took a few minutes for it to sink in and then he asked ?So is it officially happening then??, when we said yes their faces lit up and they were so excited for us!! It was so good for them to finally know ? at least I knew it would stop the questions during our phone calls!!
So it was now time to officially start telling the rest of our friends and family, everyone was really excited to hear our news and it felt so good to be able to tell people now instead of trying to hide it. As I had first thought in Manchester, we weren?t very good at hiding our little secret as everyone else had already guessed ? we must have looked so funny trying to come up with stories that night!!
We have started to take ?bump shots? and I think this will become a regular occurrence so we can track the journey of my expanding tummy ? here?s our first one
I think now would be a good time to finally introduce myself now that our news is global ? my name is Jaimie and I am currently 15 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I got married to K in July last year and we are so chuffed to have a little bundle of joy coming to meet us soon. There is still a long way to go but I am sure that it will pass quickly!! We have lots to look forward to in the next few weeks ? our 16 week check-up coming up on the 10th and our 2nd scan is booked in for the beginning of February (we?re still debating as to whether we will found out the flavour), along with starting the shopping for all of our baby stuff (I think I will find it hard not to buy everything!!), but I am also so glad that we will finally get to go on our honeymoon as we had to postpone it until 2013; so I will have lots to tell you next time!
Thanks, Jaimie, so glad to see your little bean becoming a baby. Scan photos really bring home to me just how much of a miracle pregnancy is. I bet your family were over the moon!
