Were you aware that young Abraham Lincoln liked to break-dance in his spare time? No? Well, this is the proof!
The infamous Victorian Boombox is back and better than before! This time Version 1.5 of the Victorian Boombox? features improvements from last years version.
The Victorian Boombox? is essentially a PC stereo subwoofer system adapted to look like an anachronistic boombox which could have come form an alternate 19th Century time line. This item will come signed by your's truly John "Wilhelm" Dunn, as people know me in the brassgoggles.co.uk forum. If you're a hardcore Steampunk, this will get your peer's attention...
Plainly visible, and the stars of the system are the two metal Victrola-like horns, which actually house two full-range speakers hiding behind real wrought iron wire grills. The main body of the boombox is actually a PC-sound system subwoofer, wrapped in chocolate coloured felt, with a nice stamped Victorian pattern. Three "rusted" metal conduits (painted steel) conduct the electric aural waves to the horns The "binaural" horns are bolted securely to the subwoofer, and you can carry the whole contraption thanks to its ultra sturdy wrought-iron handle. An elegant copper plated bezel lines an opening in a box meant to serve as base for a portable audio device. It was specifically sized for for an iPod Touch 2/3/4 generation and / or an iPhone 4, but its compatible with any version of the iPod which features Apple's standard USB interface plug.
The iPod dock compartment is full-featured, including a remote control with the ability to navigate the iPod/iPhone music menu. Connnections include line level ouputs for left right and video composite channels (composite/RCA phono type plugs), so you can playback movies in your home entertainment system/TV or stereo. A switch in the console allows you to switch between the iPod dock and an auxiliary external sound source via a stereo 1/8" input connector suitable for connection to any device with a headphone/earphone output such as a portable mp3 player, or a laptop computer. Naturally the dock has the ability to charge the iPod/iPhone.
The galvanic Feed (power supply) includes three transformers located inside a quaint little chest with a handle
The subwoofer system itself is an Altec Lansing ACS-340 computer speaker system. It does not have immense power by home stereo standards, but the sound coming out of the boombox is nothing short of fabulous (I'm an audiophile, I'm very picky about sound quality), and the purpose of this boombox is to take out into the public and show off!! All the ground shaking bass young Lincoln needed to twirl on his head!

{IMPORTANT NOTES!!!}
THIS IS A HEAVY ITEM. IT IS REAL STEAMPUNK! NOT A MASS PRODUCED IMITATION. I WILL ACCEPT NO RETURNS BASED ON AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS SINCE THIS IS A WORK OF ART, IF YOU NEED MORE PHOTOS PLEASE CONTACT ME!
Be warned that this is a unique "one-off" construct. I may not be able to make another item like this in some time, since the parts are no longer available, however whenever I can I will try to repeat the concept (so far has gone through 3 iterations, V. 1, V1.2, and v1.5). The three main components (subwoofer and Victrola-like horns) are discontinued items from yesteryear, and are extremely difficult to obtain. So if you think you would like this item, you have to pounce on it! Because this may be you last and only chance!!
Because this item works in 115/125V it may not operate overseas as shown, HOWEVER this does not mean I can't ship to the European Union or Australia, as there are 220V electrical adapters widely available. I may be able to get an adapter here in America if the patron contacts me in advance!
PLEASE READ ALSO!! An item like this will have to be shipped in two separate boxes (one for the Victrola like horns and the power supply, and one for the subwoofer / main body to insure that the horns are not damaged during transit. While the horns are firmly bolted into the main body, the "arms" or "pipes" that connect the horns to their bases are made of cast aluminium, and it's conceivable that while attached to the main body and if the boombox is dropped to one side, they could break because the sub-woofer is so heavy! Therefore, I have designed the speaker Victrola-like horns to be detachable by hand through the use of knurled knobs. Each horn has a fool-proof detachable connector for each speaker, so the best thing to do is separate the 3 parts of the boombox before shipping!!!
